TFx: What inspired the writing of this prequel?

Rose: I have always wanted to dig deeper into my main character’s past and it was fun to explore her from a different perspective. She’s younger and very ambitious, which causes her a lot of trouble. She is struggling in her marriage and with being the mother of two young children along with being an FBI-profiler.

TFx: What is the significance of the title?

Rose: So We Lie is a book about the lies we tell ourselves and others, when the truth is too painful to face.

TFx: Do you believe you should never judge a book by its cover?

Rose: Actually I do it all the time. I think most of us do. And why wouldn’t we? It’s the first thing we see, before we read the description. It should pull us in, and tell us what we can expect from this story. I always strive to make my covers as appealing as possible for the reader. I realized recently that a lot of my covers were way too scary and that made a lot of readers stay away from them, so I changed them.

TFx: When did you first hear that you were being called "The Queen of Plot Twists"? How do you feel about that title?

Rose: I realized it when reviewers began to call me it in their reviews, and I loved it immediately. I always strive to make sure the reader can’t guess who the killer is and I succeed quite often, which is so much fun to me. I love it when I get emails from readers telling me they didn’t see that coming. That’s the best compliment.

TFx: What was the hardest scene to write in this book?

Rose: A scene where a mother comes home and can’t find her children. It must be such an awful feeling. It broke my heart.

TFx: What's next for Eva Rae Thomas?

Rose: This was a prequel so now I will go back and write book 10 in the series. We need the story to move forward now. A new romance interest will present himself, but that is all I will reveal by now.

TFx: Had you always wanted to be a writer?

Rose: I wanted to as a child, but then a school counselor told me that it was a bad idea since you couldn’t make a decent living off writing novels, so I became a journalist instead. Today I am so happy to have been able to prove the counselor wrong. But I had to go through a lot of years of not making a lot of money first.

TFx: How important is research when it comes to your writing?

Rose: It’s really important. I like to research a lot of stories about the subject before I begin. I need to understand the emotions behind a story before I can write it. What does it feel like to be in an abusive relationship, and why do people stay even if they know it’s bad? That’s part of what I needed to know more about before writing So We Lie.

TFx: Tell us something fun about you that readers might be surprised to know?

Rose: I collect snow globes. Whenever we travel, I always buy one as a souvenir and now they’re filling up my entire desk. Every time I am stuck while writing, I turn them upside down one after the other and look at the snow falling inside of them. It’s very calming.

What do we do when the truth hurts too much?

Fresh out of the national academy - mother of two - FBI profiler Eva Rae Thomas is in over her head on her first assignment in multi-million-copy bestselling author Willow Rose’s breath-taking mystery.

When the mother of two, Arlene Wood, crashes her car against a tree at four in the morning, the case seems pretty straightforward.

But evidence found in the remains of the car soon raises the question of whether this was really an accident.

Shortly after, her husband is taken in and later convicted of having murdered his wife.

But many questions remain unanswered.

Why was Arlene driving in the middle of the night? Why did she leave the house, her husband, and her sleeping children, get into her car, and drive away? Was she meeting someone?

A friend? A lover? A killer?

Six years later, Special Agent Eva Rae Thomas is new on the job when she stumbles upon something that suddenly blows this case wide open.

But can she persuade anyone to reopen the case even when the husband has admitted that he is guilty?

And will she be able to do it in time before this killer strikes again?

This mystery novel is the prequel to the #1 bestselling Eva Rae Thomas Mystery Series.
