TFx: Where did you come up with the idea for Marked for Murder?

Helme: “Marked for Murder is number twelve in my Shelby Nichols Mystery Adventure Series. Each book is a stand-alone, but they do build on each other.

For each book I write, the title is my inspiration for the book content. I had listened to a podcast on stalkers and this gave me the idea for the plotline for my main character, Shelby Nichols. Although she is dealing with multiple issues, this is the main one in this book, and let me tell you, it’s kind of creepy!”

TFx: What can you tell us about the book's setting?

Helme: “The setting for the book is the city in which she lives, so she doesn’t travel this time. But, as a mind reader she has her own consulting business, so that keeps her busy.

On top of that, she is also a consultant for the police, but keeps her mind reading a secret by telling them she has ‘premonitions.’ This works great for them, but she also has ties to a mob boss who knows her secret, and who calls on her mind reading skills to help him with his business.

In essence, she works for both sides of the law, and, needless to say, it can lead to some insane moments for her.”

TFx: What are you reading now, and what good books have you read lately?

Helme: “Right now I am reading the first book in Lyndee Walker’s Nichelle Clarke Series, Front Page Fatality, and I’m really enjoying it.

I also listen to audio books, and I’ve just finished Matthew Mather’s Cyber Storm. That book was great, but kept me up at night worrying about something like that actually happening. I even bought some extra food to have on hand! I plan to read all the authors on Thrillerfix this summer and can’t wait to get started.”

TFx: What’s next for the Shelby Nichols series?

Helme: “For my next book in the series, Shelby will be heading back to New York. This means meeting the New York Manettos and encountering some pretty intense moments with the mob family’s past.

There’s also another thread in the book of a killer that she’ll be tracking, which I’m excited about, but I don’t want to say too much right now – except that it will be another exciting adventure!”
